The project “…WHY?” investigates the pervasive drive among Moldovan citizens to permanently abandon their homeland.

Through dialogues in the village of Palanca, I paralleled my own departure with a collective flight from origins.

The research culminated in a performative intervention: placing a map of the Moldavian SSR at a crossroads, transforming history into spatial provocation.

By incorporating fragments of a destroyed bridge and photographic studies of residents’ hands, the work allegorizes the severance of intergenerational ties.
This symbolic “cross-section” of an era, including interviews with the younger generation, captures a national identity undergoing constant deconstruction. And yet—WHY?

The project was implemented in the form of an interactive photo-sound installation with photo-documentary elements of a performative intervention in the public space of the village of Palanka.
