Russian Palm

This work responds to the 2014 annexation of Crimea, triggered by Ukraine’s Maidan revolution and the subsequent collapse of the Yanukovych government.

Russia seized the peninsula by force, a move unrecognized by the international community and the UN.
This sparked an undeclared war, resulting in Russia’s expulsion from the G8 and ongoing sanctions.

Since 2022, Crimea has remained a central ultimatum in Russia’s invasion, while Ukraine maintains its goal of restoring all internationally recognized borders, viewing the territory as temporarily occupied.

Western and Russian media have repeatedly compared the annexation of Crimea to the actions of Nazi Germany in 1938: the Anschluss of Austria and the annexation of the Sudetenland.
