Elastic Dreams

The work presents a chilling psychological investigation into the inherent nature of the military mindset—a disposition defined by the latent desire to operationalize “life skills” acquired for the purpose of destruction. This internal drive exists as a universal constant, transcending specific geopolitical boundaries and persisting regardless of the strategic location of the observed subject.

The artist explores the structural tension that defines the relationship between military institutions and civilian society. This tension is not a transient state but an existential fixture. Within this discourse, the work asserts a radical and disturbing premise: this friction can only be resolved under one condition—the total realization of the pathological fantasies and aggressive dreams inherent in the martial nature.

Through the lens of this installation, the military apparatus is viewed not as a defensive shield, but as a vessel for a specific type of “aggressive dreaming.” The presence of tactical gear, such as gas masks and uniforms, serves to de-individualize the subjects, transforming them into anonymous agents of a systemic pathology. By placing these figures in confined, stark environments, the project forces the viewer to confront the inevitability of the impulse toward force.

Ultimately, the work serves as a grim meditation on the fragility of the civilian sphere. It suggests that as long as the “military inherent” is cultivated, the threat of its full manifestation remains an ever-present shadow—a pathological potentiality waiting for the moment to translate its fantasies into devastating reality.

The work is realized in the form of hand embroidery on military caps.
