Minimarket

Being part of the artistic process, it is hard for me not to notice the huge number of random people in the art world. This applies not only to the so-called curators, critics, journalists, collectors, gallerists, and dealers, but also to the artists themselves.

In the project “Minimarket,” I decided to use an ironic toolkit to reveal only a small segment of the current situation within the framework of today’s cultural coordinate system.

Through contemporary practices focused on the international artistic discourse regarding museum intervention, I wanted to demonstrate where the artist stands today in this hierarchical system of checks and balances.

It should be noted that in the “Minimarket” project, I decided to buy tickets to the five most important museums in Vienna using a forged press card, while simultaneously buying tickets as an artist.

From the beginning, I showed a card indicating that I am an artist and asked:

„Should I pay something if I am an artist for entrance”?

After being told that I had to pay, I bought an entrance ticket. Immediately following this, I asked another question:

“If I have with me my press card, the entrance will be for free“? or „Do you have special ticket for press, if I have a press card with me as well”?

After receiving a free ticket thanks to the fake press card, I asked a final question:

“Which ticket will be better to use now?”

By means of this step, I tried to demonstrate the hierarchical situation in the art world. It is very painful to realize that having a fake piece of paper is more important than being a key element of the artistic system one who produces real meanings through the creation of works of art.

At the same time, with a simple fake press card, I received a lot of additional materials (press releases, exhibition catalogues, USB drives with photo documentation of projects in high resolution, and much more), but as an artist, I received nothing…

However, it is precisely the artist who creates the content which all these museums subsequently exploit in their own mercenary interests!

The project was implemented in the form of a photo — video — light installation.
